Tropical typically breeds 20 horses per year (check out the newest foal below) and keeps 10-12, selling the rest – encouraging a full pipeline of strong recruiting classes for years to come, upping the odds that Tropical’s horses will find themselves in the winner’s circle. Think of it like Nick Saban at Alabama circa 2007 – that initial recruiting class was full of thoroughbreds and set the table for the current run of dominance that has run for a decade and a half.

But back to actual horses…besides earnings from on-track performances, Tropical’s horses earn stud fees when they retire from racing and spend their days on the farm where they get their exercise in, umm, a different manner. It’s a bit like a stock that has a nice run of capital gains, then receives a lucrative buyout offer, giving investors two bites at the apple!
