I’m not sure if you’ve noticed but it’s getting pretty crowded out there. Our population is getting so dense that the United Nations is predicting that our humble planet Earth will be home to 8 billion people by year’s end. It feels like just yesterday we were at a pitiful 7 billion…
Of course with that many people it’s going to be difficult finding a place for all of them to live, and space is the one thing they aren’t making more of.
Enter today’s feature: Boxabl – the housing startup trying to address this problem by introducing not only cost-effective but super cozy factory-built housing.
Traditionally, prefab housing was only efficient in theory. In actuality the situation was clunky at best. Modules were restricted to transport on wide load trailers which are barely able to fit on a highway (if at all). This meant the added overhead of additional follow cars, specialized routes, and time constraints that made these homes a nightmare for the bottomline of builders and buyers.
Boxabl has completely dodged those pitfalls with the design of its premier product, the Casita.
Instead of modules that take up two lanes of traffic, each of their units folds into a neat 8ft-wide load, perfect for the freeway.
In one fell swoop Boxabl solved the issues of scale that had plagued the prefab home industry practically since its inception. That initial concept was enough to garner the attention of investors but it wasn’t until the biggest fish in tech got involved.
According to some sources Elon Musk himself has a Boxabl Casita serving as a guest house. This news has really put the wind in Boxabl’s sails as its startengine campaign has accrued over $22M in investment.
If I did my math right I believe that comes out to a potential valuation of $3B (as in billions)!
That’s some serious money, and why wouldn’t it be when Boxabl has come up with a potential solution to one of the future’s greatest challenges?
But the buck doesn’t stop there as Boxabl already had raised $100M in investment and currently has 100K reservations including orders placed by the federal government itself.
Add to that its own dedicated factory and it should make sense why this opportunity has me so excited!
