Everywhere we turn, it’s Ai this and Ai that… I’m talking about artificial intelligence, of course. Did you know that this term was coined by British logician and computer pioneer Alan Turing… if you guessed Al Gore, you were wrong. He invented the Internet. 😆
|
Mr. Turing was using the term “Ai” as early as the 1950s. I think it’s safe to say that if ole Alan was still around he’d be doing backflips with how far Ai has come.
With just the sound of our voice, we can order groceries, watch our favorite shows and let every marketer on the planet know the exact product we want.
It’s an exciting time to be alive and also a little nerve-racking.
Elon Musk has been warning about the dangers of Ai technology for quite some time.
“Musk claims AI will outsmart humanity and overtake human civilization in less than five years and also that AI and robots will take over everyone’s jobs and will do everything better than us. According to him, AI is the real existential risk to humankind and people should not cherish that.”
And he said that in 2020- so I guess we are 3 years away from the robots taking over!
Before we know our teenagers won’t be the only ones talking back to us, Siri will be getting in on the action…
Me: Siri…
Siri: Did I ask you to speak to me?
Me: I’m sorry, Siri
Of course, Musk is playing out the worst-case scenario, but there are some pretty unique ways Ai is being used to make an impact across multiple industries.
|
Ai is being used to help with cancer screening, fight off climate change, combating world hunger, and so much more. And the speed at which Ai is learning is mind-blowing. According to a study done by OpenAI, the amount of computing power used in AI training has doubled every 3.4 months.
Ai is here to stay! Grab your popcorn- and your tinfoil hat, and let’s see where this wild ride takes us. Happy investing, friends.
I’m hopeful that it will be all good and that robots won’t take over the planet.
I’m sure it’s all going to be just fine… right?
Me: Siri, did I do okay in today’s Boardroom Issue?
Siri:

Angela Hood had just graduated from Texas A&M (Whoop) with her engineering degree and was ready to take on the world. She set out to land that coveted first job fresh out of university. She sent her resume far and wide, but… she wasn’t hearing back from any employers.
A little perplexed that she hadn’t heard back from anyone, she shared her confusion with a close friend. Since this was the early 90s, her friend suggested she use the initials of her first and middle name, so instead of Angela, she used: AL. And wouldn’t you know, the phone started ringing.
It was clear that Angela had just experienced bias in her hiring process. That day Angela determined that she wanted to do something about this problem, and the idea of Angela’s now growing startup ThisWay Global was born.
|
Today, Angela is the CEO and Founder of an Ai SaaS startup that eliminates bias from the hiring process.
Recently, ThisWay was selected as a Google Accelerator company & just a few days ago announced a major partnership with IBM.
I sat down and interviewed Angela, and she shared all about how Google helped her implement a change in the company in just under three months- that her team had been working to do for ten years. And she pulls back the curtain on what the IBM partnership means for ThisWay.
|
They currently have an open fund raise campaign on WeFunder. So if you are interested in learning more about their vision, technology or even want to ask Angela and her team questions, you can do that HERE.
