Nevertheless, here we are 3+ days away from the Madre interview and I CANNOT stop thinking about some of the amazing things the company is doing. Here are three of the biggest takeaways for me:
1. The Colombian government is supporting Canadian-incorporated Madre Tierra and its efforts – say what??? Yes, this is BIG NEWS because they only give a select number of licenses to companies and Madre Tierra has one of those licenses!
Even in the chat during the interview, some of you were asking questions about geopolitical issues and political unrest in a country like Colombia (which I thought were great questions by the way). But, I like the response Sahsa Kaplun — CEO/Founder – gave in response to the questions. You can see his response here at the 28:25 mark.
2. Madre Tierra is really helping the “local guy.” Its business model is very different from the large gold mining operations that basically RIP THROUGH the earth and leave a massive wake of destruction. They are working with small local family-owned mining companies to move the economic needle for the smaller miners.
A simplified example is that they can buy gold at a discount from the local miners (it’s still a huge win for the miners) and then quickly send that gold off to be refined and realize a fairly quick return on profits. This is incredible because from what I gather most mining operations don’t see profit – maybe years or perhaps never. Sasha shares how the whole process works when it comes to the local miners around the 6:40 mark
